Silk evening. Every time I look at this dress I instantly think of the infamous gown that Julia Roberts wore for her big Oscar win. This is far simpler and all black but it has that feel though the back and seems a simpler, more pared down version of the its successor. Seriously sexy but in that oh so chic Valentino kind of way. It is constructed from a rich black silk crepe and the back panels are black silk. The pay of textures is what makes the back panel stand out and become highlighted! The front is a simple strapless gown with a panel of silk running across the top and the rest falling to the floor in a sleek column. The entire bodice has a built in corset so you get no lines from the exterior but perfectly fit under. The back is genius with flat pleated seam done with couture precision. Once those seams hit below the torso they open to beautiful knife pleats that give the skirt fullness and a "train" effect! The genius is in the cut and simplicity as is Valentino's specialty. It closes with a back zipper and the inner bodice has a second zipper and an attached waist stay that closes with hook & eye. Beautifully finished inside as one would expect!
